Ontario craft breweries have exploded over the past decade or so. Even in London specifically, there are plenty of groups brewing solely in the city. But how do these smaller breweries differentiate themselves from the many other groups that have been so successful for so long?
Some of this comes from marketing. When an individual walks into their local Beer Store or LCBO, they’re bombarded with hundreds of different brands. Ontario Craft has found a way to make their cans look very unique and eye-catching.
Along with this, we are seeing more and more very uniquely flavored beers. Taproom and events manager at London Brewing, Tim Stewart, mentions how his company have set themselves aside from other breweries.
“We now have our sweet potato rye beer in the stores. That came out not too long ago, but we’re trying to keep things interesting. We still have your more accessible lagers but most craft drinkers are looking for more unique things.”
On top of this, they focus on locally sourced ingredients, with one of their beers being able to be traced to every farmer involve.
“Local 117, that’s our beer where everything is sourced from within 117 kilometres of our downtown brewery. So hops, wheat barley, everything comes from right around the corner from us.”
Having a local focus has helped London Brewing prosperous, along with providing business for farmers in the area.
