Trick or treating is a huge part of Halloween.
Dressing up in a fun costume, then going door to door asking complete strangers for free candy. What kid doesn’t love that?
But this pandemic, it complicates things.
Going out is harder than ever before. Everyone should be wearing masks, keeping 6 feet apart and taking all of the other precautions to keep all of us safe.
It’s been a hard 7 months, but in order to lessen the curve of cases, we need to make sure we follow all of the rules and guidelines set out by our government.
Now health officials cannot stop anyone from going out trick or treating, but they do suggest some fun alternatives to keep up with the theme of the spooky holiday.
Some alternatives that families could do at home include pumpkin carving, a scavenger hunt for candy, even a Halloween themed movie marathon, which could vary from family-friendly Halloween movies to the more scary / horror movies.
Health officials are encouraging everyone to be mindful of their plans, to stick to staying home with their families and maybe some close friends, but to limit interactions with others if possible.
Although they do have suggestions for those set on going out trick or treating and those who want to hand out candy.
Some suggestions to help with keeping your distance would be to come up with a different way of handing out candy. Try not to leave it in a bowl for children to take, but possibly hand it out with some sanitized tongs, ensuring no contact is made with anyone hand-to-hand.
Health officials also warn not to use costume masks as protective masks, as they do nothing to protect but to also not put a costume mask over a protective mask as it will make it harder to breathe under both.
The point of Halloween is to have fun dressing up and getting candy, but in times like this, there are still ways of making that possible even if it doesn’t involve going out trick or treating. There are ways of getting creative during this holiday where everyone in your family and close friend circle can enjoy the spooky time of year.
