Costco has been busy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. As an essential service, it’s busy right now trying to get customers what they need, while enforcing the new physical distancing rules that apply, including cleaning and sanitizing the carts.
However, what do we do with our sanitised wipes after we use them?
Anthony Jackson, a freelance photographer and content creator on YouTube, lives near a Costco in Burlington. While walking his dog, he notices that he had seen a lot of flown into a park right near his house.
“I hate complaining about a problem, and not doing something about it, so I was like what can I do,” Jackson said. “I could make a YouTube video out of this problem, and clean up my neighbourhood”.
While making the video, he decided to go back into his hometown in London, to clean up some of the mess in both the south and north locations in the city. He said however, he couldn’t believe how much wipes were on the ground.
“In Burlington, it was bad enough for me to notice something, but I wasn’t prepared for what I saw in London,” Jackson said. “It was absolutely wild, I couldn’t believe it”
In the video, he shows a clip where he says he took two and a half hours of cleaning only one side at the London South store, and while driving out, it shows that the entire backfield was covered in garbage. When he cleaned the London North store, he had to call his mom to help him pick up the garbage around.
“I missed so many,” Jackson said. “I couldn’t believe how many sanitizer wipes were actually out there”.
Jackson also says that while we are trying to prevent the spread of COVID-19, leaving sanitized wipes to get blown away is a problem in itself.
“We’re trying to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and everything like that, but now all these sanitising wipes are just being blown all over the place, which is a big issue in itself”.
Jackson says that Costco should do a company-wide cleanup, while he also says customers shouldn’t be leaving their wipes for the wind to get blown away.
