The Fanshawe Falcons women’s basketball team has won the OCAA championship for 2 consecutive seasons now. They had a dominant regular season going 17-1 and finishing tied for 1st with Humber College in the OCAA west division. They were coming into the OCAA playoffs facing some adversity as they had lost there starting point guard from an ACL injury. That didn’t set the team back though, other players had to step up and fill in the gap that the team had lost.
The Falcons had to play 3 games in 3 days to earn themselves the gold medal and a trip to the national championships. London native Mikhaila Wright was named the tournament MVP while Chuot Angou was named player of the game in the Gold medal match. Natalie Warren and Chuot Angou were also named tournament all stars.
In the first of 3 games for the Falcons they played Durham College winning by a score of 79-70. Chuot Angou led the way with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.
Fanshawe then moved on to play Algonquin College in the Semi Final of the OCAA playoff tournament. They were able to beat Algonquin College 83-73 sending themselves to the tournament’s gold medal game for consecutive seasons now. Chuot Angou and Mikhaila Wright combined for a massive 60 points in the win. Angou had 24 points, 1 rebound, 5 assists, and 1 steal while Wright had 36 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
In the gold medal game it was the Fanshawe Falcons matching up against St Clair College. Fanshawe won the game 93-80 bringing home the gold medal for 2 straight seasons plus giving themselves a birth in the National Championships in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Angou and Wright led the way for the Falcons combining for another 60 points in this game. Angou had 30 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block while Wright went for 30 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. These 2 really were a dynamic duo for the Falcons throughout the OCAA playoff tournament.
With the OCAA gold medal win for the Falcons they have clinched a spot in the CCAA national championships. Fanshawe is heading to nationals as the 4th ranked team in the country hoping to bring the CCAA championship back to London. If they can continue to play there game they’ve got a good shot at beating any team in the CCAA national championships.
With a dynamic duo of Angou who has won OCAA player of the year for consecutive seasons and Wright who won west division defensive player of the year. Then not to forget there Head Coach Bill Carriere as he won west division coach of the year. Fanshawe is heading to nationals with all the momentum they need as they have won there last 18 games. There last loss is all the way back on November 6th, 2019. Despite the teams one injury they couldn’t be heading to nationals in a better position.
