Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for London and the surrounding area.
Snow will arrive tonight and could mix with ice pellets before ending the night with a risk of freezing rain.
Keep in mind that your commute may be affected Thursday morning and afternoon.
Peter Kimbell is a Warning Preparedness Meteorologist at Environment Canada. He told XFM News about the statement.
“There’s a low-pressure system from the southern US. It’s going to be moving northeast or towards liquid lower great lakes and bringing some snow with it,” he said. “So we have some snow expected to arrive tonight around midnight. We’re looking for maybe total accumulation five to 10 centimeters although I think closer to five is more likely.”
We’ve had an extremely mild January this year. In fact, Toronto’s weather statistics show that the hourly average temperature was just -1.5°C. A few degrees warmer than what we normally see.
Kimbell says that February might make up for it.
“Usually February is warmer than January. I suspect that February will be colder than January this year because January was so warm,” he said. “So we may have a more typical February this year, which means cold temperatures and which means probably the odd snowfall.”
