Fuel is an event that takes place every Monday night for students of Fanshawe College to get out and enjoy a night of fun gaming with some new people. There is a competitive side to Fuel as well if you think you would be interested in that as they hold their own tournaments throughout the year but are also going to other tournaments to play kids and teams from other schools. Fanshawe has an NHL 20 team, they have a FIFA 20 team and a league of legends team. Tyler Hetherington who is the Events and Activities Coordinator at Fanshawe College said he kind of started Fuel when he started at Fanshawe a few years ago and that it has grown tremendously and will continue to grow.
Fuel is a great opportunity and have some fun if you enjoy playing video games or would like to try them. Every Monday night when the group gets together it’s mostly just friendly competition between others. E sports is growing rapidly in the world right now and doesn’t seem like it’s going to slow down. That’s where this can become more competitive by joining one of the teams the school has and beginning to enter e sports contests.
Tyler Hetherington said, “An E sports tournament in 2019 was the second most watched thing across the world that year only behind the Superbowl, which shows you the kind of audience this is growing.”
More and more people continue to get into this as for some it can potentially end up being a full-time job. For most e sports tournaments the winner will earn more money than the average person would make in a year. The tournaments aren’t the only way for gamers to earn a living either. Streaming is a huge part into online gaming as some people will sit there and watch someone’s stream of them gaming instead of say watching a TV show now. Fanshawe has some of their own streaming services for Fuel as they do streams with the game League of Legends.
Hetherington said, “Streaming is becoming a huge factor in gaming, I’ve heard people say they will sit there and watch streams of games now instead of TV.”
The gaming world is continuing to grow whether we like it or not. More and more people are getting into it and honestly it might not be a bad idea. Fanshawe holds an event every Monday night for students if you want to go and check it out. Fuel is an event to have fun and if you want to try and take a step into the E sports world and into tournaments it gives you that opportunity as well. They have multiple games for you to try out so you can find what you like or your good at. Fuel is an event that will continue to grow and get better with the world of gaming.
