The University Drive Bridge will reopen in six weeks, says Jo Ann Johnston from the Communications and Public Affairs at Western University.
She also says that bearings on the bridge piers had to be changed during this period of time closed.
The bridge has been closed since the Western Homecoming last year. It connects the University to Richmond Street.
Johnston also adds that “Engineers did the inspections and found important to replace the bearings, and everything is on schedule.” Pedestrians have been using the walkways along the outside of the deck and cyclists have also been using a section of the roadway.
“Now, we are working with LTC and emergencies units to reopen the access for them to go through the bridge.”
Different routes for traffic were being used for drivers as well, but engineer Jamaal Habeen, who lives close to Richmond Street and uses the bridge to go to work, says that he has had some inconvenient time with the bridge closed.
“It was hard for me have to change my route, especially during busy traffic. I’m happy that they will reopen it.”
