The city of London announced the retirement of Chief John Kobarda “effective immediately” this morning.
The 27-year-veteran’s retirement comes after a multitude of harassment allegations against the London Fire Department.
Deputy Fire Chief Lori Hamer will serve as acting chief while a recruitment process begins.
The news comes less than a week after the city announced an independent review of the city’s harassment policy.
Last week, XFM News learned that 68 people have come forward to the London Abused Women’s Centre with complaints of harassment in city departments. Among the many departments that were listed in the complaints was the London Fire Department.
