Fanshawe College students commuting to downtown London now have access to discounted parking permits at selected locations. Fanshawe Student Union’s President Siddharth Singh provides information, saying FSU has secured a deal with parking providers to offer students a reduced monthly rate of $105 plus tax, significantly lowering the cost of parking in the area.
The initiative was developed after students raised concerns about the high cost and limited availability of downtown parking. A survey conducted by the FSU found that 78% of respondents supported the idea of discounted parking. With this feedback, the union negotiated a deal to provide students with access to five downtown lots: 74-96 Fullarton Street, 100 Queens Avenue, 435 Ridout Street North, 126 York Street, and 75 King Street.
Many students have welcomed the initiative, saying it will help ease their financial burden. “It’s a great step. Parking downtown can be expensive, and every dollar saved helps,” said one student. Another added, “Finding an affordable and convenient parking spot has always been a challenge. This could make a big difference.”
Students interested in applying for a parking permit can do so through an online process and register online at fsu.ca/downtownparking. As the program moves forward, its success will depend on student participation and feedback.
