London currently has an extreme cold warning, according to Environment Canada. The high winds and flurry weather conditions have led to certain highways being closed in surrounding areas.
“Right now, there’s a few highway closures in West region, Hwy. 21 is closed between Amberly and Concurrent,” Ontario Provincial Police West Region, Sergeant Ed Sanchuk said.
Other highways surrounding London have warnings of partly covered roads, like highway 4 from Saint Thomas to London, according to Municipal 511.
With the cold weather, frostbite is a main concern.
“If you’re heading on this bone chilling temperatures, please make sure that you’re dressed for the weather,” Sanchuk said. “We want to make sure that anyone that’s heading out gets where they’re going, but more importantly gets home station to their families.”
When travelling, it is important to plan ahead and pack an emergency kit, Sanchuk continued.
“The emergency kits can consist of a shovel, blanket, warm clothes, food and water, booster cables, and any medication, in case you get stranded,” Sanchuk added.
The weather warning will be in effect until Tuesday morning, but the cold weather may persist until Wednesday, according to Environment Canada.
