The London Police Service is looking into a shooting incident in downtown London early Monday and asking for the public’s help.
At approximately 3:10 a.m., law enforcement was alerted to a residence on Dundas Street’s 200 block following a security guard’s report of loud noises. Bullet holes were discovered in the glass of the building. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries, and the investigation is still in progress.
The back door of an unlicensed cannabis shop at 264 Dundas Street showed a minimum of 16 bullet holes.
Local workers are now worried due to the shooting incident. An employee at a local record store, Grooves, expressed their opinion.
“I noticed a special constable outside the building and someone with a camera but didn’t think much of it. Later, I heard about the shooting on Reddit,” they said. While they personally haven’t felt unsafe, they can understand why others might.
“A gun was discharged, it’s a serious thing. But spending time downtown, you get desensitized to this kind of stuff. Crazy things happen down here so often that it doesn’t really register anymore,” they added.
An employee from the nearby News Depot Magazine Variety store shared the challenges of running a business in the area. They chose not to appear on camera but said they close their shop by 5 p.m. due to safety concerns, citing frequent encounters with homeless people and the discomfort in the area at night.
Even though they were ignorant of the shooting incident, they talked about the challenges of working in the city center.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
