London Police have identified one of two suspects in a break and enter and shooting investigation.
Shayne Cousins, 29, has been charged with the following offences:
- Break enter & commit indictable offence:
- Use of firearm during commission of an indictable offence;
- Aggravated assault.
- Assault with a weapon;
- Uttering threats of death or bodily harm;
- Forcible confinement;
- Disguise with intent;
- Assault; and
- Theft under $5000.
Police say Cousins is still at large and they have put out a warrant for his arrest.
“The accused should be considered armed and dangerous, and we are reminding members of the public not to approach him if located, and to call 9-1-1 immediately if seen,” police said in a media release on Monday.
They are still working to identify the second suspect, whom they describe as:
- “Male, Black, approximately 6’0”. Between 30 – 35 years of age, heavy build, wearing a grey sweater, and grey jogging pants. He was wearing a balaclava at the time of the incident.”
The incident happened on Oct. 5 at around 12:20 a.m. on Meadowgate Boulevard. Police say four people were home when two masked men broke in.
According to police, the suspects first confined and assaulted a woman in the home before confronting two men ,assaulting one and unsuccessfully attempting to shoot the other. During the incident, the woman and one of the men were able to leave the house and run away.
A neighbour called the police after hearing the gunshot, but the suspects fled the scene before police could arrive. The suspects also allegedly robbed the house before leaving.
Two of the victims were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say they do not believe the incident was random.
