The Thames Valley District School Board announced this morning that Mark Fisher, the Director of Education is taking a paid leave of absence. No details have been released about the reason for the leave. Fisher has held the position since Sept. of 2019.
TVDSB also announced a special Board of Trustees meeting this evening, where an acting Director of Education will be named while the board searches for a more permanent candidate for the position. Chairperson Beth Mai says in the statement, “The Board is committed to ensuring that staff, students and families are supported during this time and we thank them for their patience.”
The board says day to day operations will not be affected, and teaching and learning will continue as normal.
UPDATE: Bill Tucker, who retired from the position more than 10 years ago has been named replacement during Fisher’s leave. Tucker served as head of the school board between 2008-2013. Chairperson, Beth Mai described Tucker as “respected, knowledgeable and an experienced leader,” within the education field. In the TVDSB’s statement, they noted Tucker had more than 40 years of experience in public education.
