The Olympics are entering their second week with just 9 days left of the competition.
Canada currently has nine gold medals with Summer McIntosh winning 2 gold medals for Women’s 200m Butterfly Swimming as well as Women’s 400m Individual Medley Swimming and a silver medal for Women’s 400m Freestyle Swimming.
Canada also took home its first ever medal in fencing with Eleanor Harvey taking home a bronze medal in women’s foil individual.
“Because honestly, it’s a very entertaining sport, it’s really fun to watch. Obviously, I’m biased, but it’s so beautiful and exciting. It can be so thrilling,” Harvey says she’s hoping her win will help grow the fencing community in Canada.
As of right now, Canada has nine Olympic medals, which consist of three gold medals, two silver medals and four bronze medals.
The Canadian athletes who took home medals include:
-Christa Deguchi with a gold medal in Judo Women (57kg)
-Womens Rugby team took home a silver medal in Rugby Sevens
-Ryan Wiens and Nathan Zsombar-Murray took home bronze medals for Men’s Synchronized 10m Platform Diving
-Ilya Kharun took home a bronze medal for Men’s 200m Butterfly Swimming
-Sophiane Methot took home bronze for Trampoline Gymnastics
-Félix Auger-Aliassime and Gaby Dabrowski won a bronze for tennis Mixed Doubles
Local London athlete, Damian Warner is competing in the decathlon today and tomorrow, hoping to defend his gold medal from the 2020 Olympics.
