Ontario is celebrating Canada Day with free fishing from June 29 to July 7.
“Wherever you are in Ontario – urban or rural – there are abundant opportunities to enjoy free fishing in celebration of Canada Day.” says Graydon Smith, Minister of Natural Resources.
This will be the last free fishing period of 2024, according to an Ontario news release.
During this free fishing time, a fishing license is not necessary, but you must carry a government issued identification as well as follow the conservation license catch limits.
“I welcome anyone curious about fishing to experience the excitement and satisfaction of this great sport firsthand,” says Smith.
Reels and rods can be rented at select Ontario provincial parks, conservation authorities, and libraries across the province.
Local fishing spots include:
- Westminster Pond
- River Forks Park East
- South River Valley Park
- Forest Hill Pond
- Falls View Park
