The Edmonton Oilers were defeated last night by the Florida Panthers, who took home the Stanley Cup.
The Panthers started off strong, gaining the first goal of the game just after four minutes into the first period by Carter Verhaeghe.
The Oilers tied up the score by the end of the first period, with Mattias Janmark scoring a goal during the sixth minute of the game.
Ultimately, the Florida Panthers won the final after Sam Reinhart scored the winning goal in period 2.
This is the first time the Panthers have ever taken home the Stanley Cup and the Edmonton Oilers haven’t won the Stanley Cup since 1990.
Edmonton put up a fight after losing the first three games of the Stanley Cup final series with 3-1, 4-0, and 4-3 final scores.
They had tied up the series before the seventh game of the series by winning games four to six with scores of 8-1, 5-3, and 5-1.
This is the first time the Edmonton Oilers were in the Stanley Cup Finals since 2006 and the 31st year since a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup.
