There are lane closures in and around London highways, necessitating attentiveness to road safety.
“We are well aware of the construction zones within this area and drivers need to be too,” says the West region detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police Media Coordinator, Derek Rogers. “If people choose to engage in unsafe behavior like speeding or following too closely, that can have a really adverse effect, it can lead to tragedy.”
“The speed limit is posted at 80 and they need to be travelling at that speed to keep themselves safe and also to keep workers on the road safe,” says Rogers. “Their workplace is in the middle of the highway, so very clearly they’re vulnerable and people need to respect that.”
This comes after road safety awareness week, where West Region OPP noted an increase in seatbelt infractions.
“West Region had over 165 seat belt infraction charges laid, and that is a substantial increase over the same time period last year,” says Rogers.
Current highway construction:
- A left lane is closed on Highway 401 Eastbound between Wellington Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway.
- A left lane is closed on Highway 401 Eastbound between Dorchester Road and Middlesex Road 32.
- Highway 401 Wonderland Road South Ramp has reduced lanes on both Westbound North and South ramps.
- Highway 401 Westbound and Eastbound has reduced lanes, from Highway 19 to near Putnam Road Overpass.
