A procession was held in London in honor of London Fire Department Chief Chris Bruinik who died of Cancer.
Christopher Bruinik was Captain of the London Fire Department and recently passed away on November 13th, after fighting Colon Cancer.
The Procession was held November 23rd, at 11:40 am to 12 pm with the fire department and Londoner’s showing their respect and condolences to the Bruinik family and LFD.
“It’s very important, we’re very happy with anyone who comes out supporting this as his family is passing by today in the procession and police escort by the London Police department,” chief Peter Vandermeyden commented as people gathered along the road.
Bruinink passed away due to colon cancer which was believed to be contracted through his work as a firefighter.
“ I’m here today in support of the LFD. My children are first responders and one of them is a firefighter as well,” a Londoner said as she paid her respects. She goes on saying, “I’m quite disappointed and heartbroken with the turnout here today. You would think that for someone well known in the community and everything he did there would be more of a turnout.
The turnout was lower than expected. Only two Londoners were gathered with the Fire Department.
The same Londoner also believes there needs to be more protection for firefighters and first responders as well. Especially those who suffer with health issues and any sort of cancers. She mentioned, “ They go through a lot, and they need to have safer, more protected uniforms so we can prevent losing those who save and protect us.”
Chris Bruinik, along other members are suffering their own personal battles. A campaign has been held in support of them by selling purple bracelets to remind us that they are always in our thoughts.
There will also be other opportunities to honor and show support to the Bruinik Family at the Lighting of The Lights in London On Friday November 24th.
