A local powerlifter is currently facing a 2-year ban following comments towards a transgender competitor.
April Hutchinson is a powerlifter from London, Ontario who recently lost in competition against a transgender female athlete.
Hutchinson was “Outraged” by this result as her competitor is a biological male who identifies as a female.
“It’s unfair because in some aspects men are biologically stronger than women,” says a female fitness enthusiast who wishes to remain anonymous in response to April Hutchinson’s outrage towards the situation.
In swimming, there is an open division where transgender athletes are eligible to compete in said division.
When asking people in the fitness community, most said that an open division would be a viable solution to biological men or women competing in the opposite divisions as swimming has already done.
