When I was growing up on the farm, folks would talk about the “dog days” of August. I was confused by this as our farm dogs were always pretty lazy at this time of year – they would just lay there in the tractor shed panting. It didn’t look like they were having a good day at all! So I decided that adults often don’t know what they were taling about – a conclusion that has been helpful – even as an adult, and now as a post-adult (aka, a “senior, with its modest discounts”).
So this week on Routes & Branches & Beyond we have another episode of Summer on the Range. There will be fiddle divas, anthemic Scottish folk, Irish jazz, refugee reggae, Cuban ska, Vancouver multicultural mocaics, a trinity of folk masters, salsamuffin stylings, dark bluegrass, banjos on the loose, and the Barnsley Nightingale. All from bands like Pierre Schryer & Adam Dobres, Skerryvore, Runa, Runrig, Carole Bestvater & Chantelle Jubenville, Sierra Leone’s Refugee AllStars, Ska Cubano, The Paperboys, Scarlett & Washington & Whiteley, Sergent Garcia, Peter Rowan, Kate Rusby, and Akira Satake. Let the sleeping dogs lie and join us.
