The London Lightning opened their season against the scorching hot 3-0 Sudbury Five.
The Lightning’s 2021-2022 championship banner hit the rafters before the game, but it wasn’t enough to inspire a victory.
The Lightning ultimately lost in a tight 86-83 game.
It was a close game that saw Sudbury lead throughout, but London attempted a furious comeback with a chance to send the game to overtime but came up short.
Although the game went down to the wire head coach Doug Plumb thought his team was vastly outplayed. “A bunch of people got absolutely dominated, they didn’t come to play like professionals,” said coach plumb.
It went beyond the lack of effort for coach Plumb “Straight up man to man, you just have to be able to preform. You can’t be missing dunks and layups and turning the ball over, it’s simple basketball. We really simplified what we were trying to do, and we just got straight up outplayed”
Sudbury is now four games into their season compared to London’s one, but Lightning head coach Doug Plumb didn’t think the additional playing time for Sudbury factored into their victory. Sudbury’s head coach Logan Stutz felt it was “Everything’s a factor, we had a little more wind then them, it did help a lot.”
The Lightning have a chance to get back in the win column when they take on the Windsor Express at Budweiser Gardens on Saturday Jan. 21, at 7:00 p.m.
