Screaming, excitement, adrenaline and tears were all brought to the OUA semi final game between Western and Ottawa.
Western University faced Ottawa University in the semi finals on November 2nd at Mustang Field. Stellar performance from both teams keeping the score 0-0 all game. Moving into an extra 30 minute Over Time period, the game was still at a tie. Heading into a Penalty shootout, many emotions were filled and the fans were off their seats.
Getting those flashbacks from last year where they faced Queens University in the finals where they also went into a penalty shoot out.
“It’s always sad when an amazing team loses a game but that’s part of sports, and you know, we’ll be back next year”
The Mustangs fought their way the entire season, however the last three months have been overwhelming with extra efforts being put in by the players and coaches. Sacrificing extra spare time for training and preparing for this moment.
Head coach Martin Painter believes for another outstanding season, digging for a championship title and putting extra hard work and effort in looking back on the past few years.
“These girls have worked incredibly hard, they have sacrificed a ton. They gave everything they had and they developed into an amazing team,” Painter stated after the game.
Disappointment, broken hearts and tears were all filled once the whistle blew after the last shot was made.
Western is looking to make the come back for next year keeping their heads up after a 9-2-1 season with high hopes of bringing home a championship title.
