Abigail King, former student of Auto Body Repair Techniques program won gold medal at the 2022 Skills Canada National Competition. It was held in Vancouver in the end of May.
Now she’s competing for Team Canada in Switzerland at World’s Skills Competition.

Fanshawe’s program, that Abby took is only one year long. She started preparation for competition eight months prior and at that time couldn’t do much.
“Abby displayed natural talent for welding and sheet metal repair very early in the program, so she became a perfect candidate for the auto body repair competition”,

Through this short journey she managed to improve her skills to professional level.
“Abby competed against a second-year apprentice to earn her spot on team Ontario. She had expressed strong interest to compete early and took on any extra training as available throughout the two semesters of regular schooling, so the competition training was fairly easy for her and us,”

Now Abby is in Europe, where she has gone for World Skills Competition. This year, 61 international skill competitions will take place across Europe, North America, and East Asia from September to November 2022.
Skills Ontario Competition
The program is popular among Fanshawe’s students, but is mostly frequented by boys. Girls winning this competition show, that everyone, despite their gender or physical power can be good at doing what they like. The biggest motivation is the desire to learn and discover something new, along with perfectioning the gained knowledge.

Earlier this year, the competition was planned to be held in Shanghai, but was cancelled in May due to the pandemic.
Abby is competing from Oct. 18-21 and will be at closing ceremony on Oct. 22nd.
Besides the competition she will also explore Switzerland and the city she is in – Bern in all its beauty.
