History has been made!
Wednesday, October 8, 2022 will always be a special and memorable day for Morgan Lowry. Lowry, a third-year student and player for the Fanshawe Women’s Softball Team, broke the 23 year old OCAA softball record for most strikeouts in a single season and now sits at 128.
Lowry was ecstatic when she found out that she broke the record.
“Breaking the record was a very exciting moment for me. Last year I got close, but unfortunately the season was shorter which made it extremely difficult to do.”
The previous record for strikeouts was 119, set by Seneca’s Debbie Wadsworth in 1999.
Lowry is in her final year at Fanshawe and part of her reasoning for returning to the team was to break the record.
“This season I came back because I love playing but the record was definitely a goal of mine this time around.”
The record was as old as Lowry and she feels honoured to have finally broken it.
“It’s pretty cool to think that the last time this record was broken was the year that I was born so I feel honoured to be able to break it 23 years later.”
Lowry also holds the Fanshawe all-time strikeout record, with 298 strikeouts to date.
The Falcons will rest this week before playing a crucial double-header on the road at Humber on October 15th, before wrapping up their regular season at home the next day against the Mohawk Mountaineers.
Fanshawe will also play host to the OCAA Softball Provincial Championship at Alumni Field from October 20-22.
