The United Kingdom, Europe, Canada and countries across the globe are still mourning and remembering the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth II as millions line up to see her coffin lying in state at Westminster Hall.
Maureen Hunkin, who was born in England, now resides in Toronto, says that the Queen was a remarkable woman and that she left a phenomenal legacy.
“People who met her, never forgot meeting her. Just being able to see her had a huge impact on people,” said Hunkin.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that September 19th will be a federal holiday in honour of the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey.
However, Premier Doug Ford’s Ontario government said that this will not be a provincial holiday. Instead, September 19th will be marked as a “Provincial Day of Mourning.”
Hunkin added that “Provincially, I don’t think it’s necessary…in some ways it’s kind of like Remembrance Day.”
The Queen’s funeral will be televised worldwide on Monday and millions will tune in to watch and say goodbye to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II one last time.
