Students are back in school after three years of online studies. It’s been a drastic change since all the learners got used to getting the information online. But some programs just can’t continue studies in fully online or blended format. This year everything has changed back to normal, but when looking back, what is now normal?
The school system got adjusted to the online format to the point where students don’t know how to adapt to actually in class learning.
Police foundations is one of the biggest study departments at Fanshawe, and it was challenging to understand the basics through the screen. Especially, considering the physical education aspect of the studies. Fitness course is essential for the future policemen and women. But in order to complete it properly, learners should be supervised. Such a program demands examples to follow with the aim of getting desired results.
“I would like to mention the fitness component in Police Foundations. It is one of the courses that was very challenging for all of us last year. Doing it on our own, we didn’t have any strict boundaries and rules to follow. When looking back, I think now you feel more connected to your program,” says Savanna Nayler, a second- year student of Police Foundations at Fanshawe.
But this is not the only department that was suffering from the side effects of online learning. Nursing students, first response course – it is hard to imagine how they were learning how to save life online for almost three years now.
The controversy lies in some people finding it easier and more efficient to receive information online. Even though you do not have a real connection with people on the course, especially with your professors, there is still an opportunity to focus more online and deepen the proficiency of your knowledge.
“In the Police Foundation it is crucial to get connections with professionals in your field of studies: detectives, officers, people enrolled in the army. With online studies there’s not a lot you can do,” adds Nayler.
Now the college has almost all classes assigned in person, and even though it can be an inconvenience for some students living far from London Campus, it is still beneficial for general comprehension and involvement in the program.
