Today Ukraine’s president addressed students across Canada to share his message. Regarding the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and how 4 months later since the invasion the constant challenges his people face on a day-to-day basis.
He addressed these students through an interactive webinar which was hosted by The Munk School of UofT which had multiple schools across the country in attendance. Student voices and leaders expressed their support for Ukraine.
Before the students spoke to President Zelenskyy, Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Chrysita Freeland shared her personal experience of the situation. She talked about the time when she was a student and at the time Ukraine became independent from the Soviet Union. And how Canadians helped through that process and how years later that will continue. She also talks about how Canada has supported Ukraine financially and will continue to until the war is resolved.
President Zelenskyy talked about how the plans he had for his country prior to the invasion and how the Russian government had completely pushed his country back. With the country needing full restoration in all areas. Although the situation has been hard he acknowledged his citizens and how they’ve stepped up as they fight for freedom as they did 80 years ago in World War ii.
He then took questions from students who expressed their support. After each school asked questions the University of Toronto Professor Peter Loewen director of Munk school talked about UofT’s plans to house 100 Ukraine students with full Tuition. Other schools across the country have been making efforts to support incoming and current Ukrainian students.
