Fanshawe’s athletics program has carried a standard of excellence with them in every sport. But no one could have predicted how well the Falcons would have done in the Indoor Soccer Regionals. The Falcons dictated the atmosphere and pace of the Regionals as they stood up to every foe like a King heading into the battle. Both the Men’s and Women’s teams showed that Fanshawe is a force to be reckoned with.
The Women’s Indoor Soccer Team played two games against some tough competition. In the first game, they played the Conestoga Condors in a game that proved to be tighter than it should have been. Despite the Falcons’ crowding the net with a flurry of scoring opportunities, the game ended a 2-2 tie. But, in their second game, Lambton did not get so lucky. Although there was only one goal by Fanshawe, the defensive side of the ball made sure that there was no chance of losing. As a result, the Women have claimed the top seed.
The Men’s Indoor Soccer Team came ready to take no prisoners. In the three games played by the Falcons, they showed no signs of weakness. In the first game, they took on Lambton. Just like the Women, the men coasted to victory with a final score of 3-1. Then, in the second game, Fanshawe took on Centennial. Despite receiving a little more of a challenge, the game once again ended 3-1. In their final game of the day, the Falcons took on the Durham Lords. The Lords could not get anything going against the mighty Falcons, as Fanshawe won with a final score of 3-0. This meant that the Men were undefeated on the day and claimed the top seed.
Both the Men and the Women now head to the OCAA Provincial Championships as the favorites and the team to beat. The OCAA Provincial Championships take place March 30th & 31st. Fanshawe’s opponents are yet to be determined.
