Standup comedy has grown over the last few years. Standup comics are becoming famous through doing comedy shows, podcasts and other ways too. There is no specific path to be a Standup comic. Akaash Singh, a standup comic based in the United States and who will be performing in Toronto later this year started doing Standup comedy when he was in college and didn’t become a regular until A few years after he started.
As stand up comedy has grown, The influence comedians have has increased too. Even though stand up comics get up on the stage to perform jokes their words can have an impact. “Your jokes are something and that’s gonna give you something but to think it’s gonna change the world, I don’t think so. You change what you can change but you also have to say things that are authentic to you and that you have a desire to say,” says Singh.
Standup comedy is a unique form of art. Mark Gagnon, a touring standup comedian says, “Comedy is unique because you are not only consuming the art in like it’s fundamental level, you are consuming the person as well… Comedy is so intrinsic to the person that’s saying it that it kinda requires having context of that person.”
