It’s already April, but London still feels like winter. People are wearing jackets, and some days are below zero. Spring is supposed to bring warm weather, sunshine, and flowers, but that’s not what Londoners are seeing.
This cold weather has many people feeling confused and frustrated. “I’m mad. It should not be this weather,” said one Londoner. “I feel like the seasons don’t feel like the seasons anymore. I’ve experienced summer in winter and winter in summer. It’s gotta do with something global warming.”
Many say the cold is affecting their mood and daily life. Some are sad they can’t enjoy the outdoors or wear spring clothes. “I love wearing dresses, and I cannot wear them as much,” said one woman. “I don’t like the cold. I feel more depressed because I’m inside.”
Others agree that the cold spring is hard on their mental health. “It’s affected my mental health,” said another Londoner. “I want to walk to school in warm weather with the sun out. I want to be tan too.”
Some people think the weather is not normal and that climate change is part of the reason. “It’s ridiculous, I feel, because, I mean, it’s April,” said one person. “It just gives concrete evidence that global warming exists because of these rapid changes and how extreme our climate has gotten.”
But not everyone agrees. One Resident said, “This is normal April weather for me.” They think this kind of weather just comes with living in Canada, where the weather changes quickly.
Still, most people say they are tired of the cold and want spring to start for real. “I’m sad. I want it to be warmer,” one resident said. “I’d like to walk outside more, but I just avoid it because it’s so cold.”
Whether it’s climate change or just Canadian weather, Londoners are ready to put away their winter coats and enjoy spring.
