In just two short years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has cemented its place as the most innovative technology of our time. Once a concept relegated to science fiction, AI has quickly turned into a powerful tool that continues to evolve, pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible.
From answering our most pressing questions to creating stunning videos from scratch, AI has unlocked a new world of possibilities. Imagine a world where apps not only provide solutions to problems but also enhance creativity and productivity in ways we never dreamed of. Whether it’s an AI that can edit videos for you, or one that can generate a realistic video of any concept in your mind, AI is no longer just a novelty—it’s a revolution.
XFM News had the opportunity to speak with Amber MacArthur, a Canadian TV personality and the creator of the AI Effect Podcast, to get her insights on the future of AI. We asked her to envision how AI will evolve in the next five years.
“we’re going to see some incredible advances particularly in healthcare.”
Amber MacArthur highlights the growing role of AI in healthcare. “There just aren’t enough doctors and nurses to fill the existing roles,” she explains. “AI will be a phenomenal companion to help—whether it’s analyzing data, reviewing scans, or working alongside radiologists. There are plenty of ways AI can help.”
Amber also warns about the dangers of AI in social media. “On the flip side, I think we’re heading down a dangerous path with AI and algorithms in social media,” she says. “There aren’t many rules, and misinformation often floats to the top. This is a threat to democracy, and it’s becoming a global issue.”
XFM News asked Amber MacArthur to share her thoughts on the most pressing ethical issues in AI development.
“When we look at some of these large language models, a big question arises: How are they learning? Where are they getting their information from? And, are they actually allowed to legally use that information to train their models?”
Amber emphasizes that this is a major concern that continues to come up.
She also brings up a more extreme example: AI in warfare.
“With the advancements we’re seeing today in drone technology and facial recognition, it’s somewhat frightening to think about the ethical considerations of using AI in warfare,” she says. “For instance, you could feed a killer drone an image of someone or their car, and it could attack without any human involvement, other than operating the technology.”
As Amber MacArthur highlights, AI has rapidly transformed from a futuristic concept into a revolutionary force shaping various industries. While its potential to enhance healthcare and productivity is immense, Amber also raises critical concerns about its ethical implications, especially in areas like social media and warfare. As AI continues to evolve, it is clear that balancing innovation with responsible regulation will be crucial in ensuring its positive impact on society.
