London Police have arrested and charged a London man related to a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Monday morning. Thirty-year-old Mitchell Gauthier-Neville has been charged with the following charges.
- Impaired operation causing bodily harm exceed blood alcohol concentration.
- Dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
- Race a motor vehicle.
- Red light – fail to stop.
- Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt.
- Obstruct plate.
Gauthier-Neville is scheduled to appear in court on May 6 in relation to the charges.
At around 7:00 a.m. the London police services and the London fire department crews arrived at the scene of a collision on McNay Street and Oxford Street. The two-vehicle crash happened right outside of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Elementary School. An individual suffered serious injuries and is in hospital.
One witness said they saw a car T-bone the other and that the woman whose car was flipped upside down was stuck in the car for a while until the emergency crews were able to get her out. A different witness, Hanji Lee drove by the intersection moments after the collision.
“Then I saw the accident scene, there was a police car with their lights on and then a couple of cars were completely wrecked. One was flipped over and the other one, the truck was completely wrecked in the front, and then the lights, the traffic lights. Some of the lights were dangling,” said Lee.
Witnesses believe that the car that got hit was most likely headed east bound on Oxford due to all the debris of the crash residing on that lane of the road. An investigation on what exactly happened is still under way. Sergeant Sandasha Bough of the London Police Services says London Police have reassigned the investigation to road safety members.
“The reason the road safety section is out there is because we don’t know the extent of those injuries at this time, so if the injuries end up being life threatening then the entire investigation will be reassigned to them to continue, so they’re out there in the meantime collecting as much information and evidence as they can.”
An RPAS or Remote Piloted Aircraft System is aiding the investigation by flying over the intersection. Drivers are advised to avoid the area to allow the investigation to take its course. The intersection of Oxford and McNay is closed during the process.
“If anybody happened to be in the area at the time, if they have dashcam footage or video surveillance, cellphone footage that could assist with the investigation, we do ask that they contact us. Any information at all could assist the investigators in relation to their end of the investigation,” says Bough.
