Have you ever spotted all the wild stuff around you right in the city’s heart? Loads of folks don’t realize just how much wildlife is hanging out in London. That sparked the whole idea for the Nature in the City talk lineup. It’s all about showcasing the cool critters and greenery we have right here.
What’s This Nature in the City Deal?
At Wolf Performance Hall, the six-part event has been a thing since 2006, all thanks to Nature London and the London Public Library. They bring in some knowledgeable folks to talk about everything from gazing at stars to taking care of our green spaces and the cool winged creatures flying around, like chimney swifts. They focus on ensuring people have a blast while they learn about Mother Nature.
It’s all about these tiny soot-colored feather balls called chimney swifts that love hanging out in chimneys and munching on bugs. Winnie Wake shared some insights on why we need to appreciate these flyers and how it’s a bit concerning that their population is dwindling. She’s hoping we all step up to support their survival. “Winnie said, “I aim for people to discover things they perhaps didn’t consider before.” To grab attention and clarify nature, the talks rely on visual aids and simple language.
No need for pro nature skills to enjoy these events. Nature in the City sessions are completely free and welcome everyone the young ones, entire crews, scholars, and nature enthusiasts. Grab a seat on a first-come, first-served basis; it’s a good idea to arrive early. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain knowledge and mingle with others who appreciate nature!
Many people have no idea about all the critters and greenery we have right in London. Kathleen Holland, who’s leading the whole event, pointed out that places like the Thames River are teeming with a variety of animals and plants. Our city has an incredible array of wildlife and green spaces ready for folks to explore.
