The London Health Science Centre has announced that they have broken their very own record of most babies delivered in 2024.
“It’s exciting for us. It’s a new high point in terms of our records for birth. It means it’s been a very busy year. We know it. We feel it.”
“Everybody’s been sort of pitching in and getting everything done. So it’s been a really positive busy time.” Says Obstetrician and Gynecologist for L.H.S.C, Dr. Tracey Crumley.
Dr. Crumley talks about what the numbers look like specifically, and how the past year has been different compared to previous years.
“Prior to the pandemic, we were at around 5,700, 5,800 range. After the pandemic, we saw a little bit of a rise and then in 2022, we were in the 6,200 range which went slightly lower in 2023 and then all of a sudden in 2024 were over 6,400.”
The timeframe of the births were from January
1st to December 31st of 2024, as well as 135 sets of twins and 6 sets of triplets.
“It’s hard to say. We’re trying to look at different strategies to keep the flow moving as well as we possibly can so that we can be ready. If we have higher numbers, we’re going to have to look at some other solutions.”
Said Dr. Crumley about what the future looks like for the L.H.S.C, and how they plan to tackle future issues with more families coming into London hospital’s.
“But right now, were keeping everybody flowing through as well as we possibly can using all the teams. So family practice OB, midwifery, obstetricians, nurses, everybody’s working together to get all the babies delivered safely.”
Dr. Crumley finished with advice for young families who are expecting a child this year.
“They should be excited and know that we are here and ready to take care of them all.”
Throughout the year, Friday was their busiest day and July being there busiest month. The L.H.S.C on average saw around 17 babies being born each day with some days seeing 22 babies.
