Fanshawe College is celebrating International Week with a series of events highlighting cultural diversity on campus. The week began with a pancake breakfast, giving international students a taste of a traditional Canadian breakfast while a Canadian movie, ´Scott Pilgrim versus the world´, played in the background.
“We do that with events throughout the week,” said Laura Costigan, International Projects and Exchanges Coordinator at the International Centre. “We have a session with Career Services on Tuesday, Feb. 4, in the morning. We’ll be at Winterfest on Wednesday, and on Thursday, we have our Cultural Expo.
The Cultural Expo will feature tables showcasing different countries, performances and snacks. “This is going to be a chance for students to show off where they’re from and elements of their culture from their home country,” Costigan said. “It should be a really good opportunity for others to learn about different countries and different cultures.”
Held for the first time since before COVID, the event will include at least 10 tables, representing regions of India, African countries, Colombia, Nepal and Korea among others. “It helps everybody understand what makes everybody unique, but also how similar we can be in different ways as well,” Costigan said.
