There have been many headlines about President Donald Trump’s cabinet selections. One that seems to have caught the most attention recently is the appointment of RFK Jr. as the head of the Department of Health and Human Services.
His plans have been seen as inconsistent, and he has shifted his stances on vaccines and health care in general after the recent confirmation hearings.
“There’s an opportunity in Canada to take up the slack, to show leadership and to build potentially profitable infrastructure that the Americans aren’t going to. And this is going to be critical as new pandemics are coming down the pipeline like H5N1″ says Raywat Deonandan, a medical professional at the University of Ottawa when asked about the potential effect this will have on Canada.
“Let’s be clear about this. He is very much pro-healthy lifestyle, which is great, pro good nutrition which is great, and the insidious nature of his message is that it’s sandwiched between good ideas. You know the best way to lie to someone is to put the lie between two truths” said Deonandan.
“RFK and this appointment represent a cultural shift in American and potentially North American, potential Western thinking around healthcare, which is mostly bad. But again, I cannot stress the opportunity,” said Deonandan when asked about the future of the healthcare industry.
“He has promised to stop all investigations into infectious disease in general. And it’s unclear how much power he will have in this role. But if he’s allowed to pursue his agenda, stopping all research on infectious disease. Stopping the sharing of data. Stopping the transparency around infectious disease modelling and incidents, all these things are troubling right now.” Deonandan said when asked about RFK Jr’s plans.
