Londoners were able to hear for the first time the sound of a meteorite hitting the earth’s surface. In July of 2024 a security camera of a homeowner’s backyard recorded the meteorite landing meters away from the roof of the house. The homeowner of the house was out walking his dog while it happened. When he got back there was a dust-like substance on the floor.
Some Londoners heard the sound for the first time and they’re reactions have left them with wonder and even more questions than answers.
“July 2024, so this is like a new sound! Oh, that’s really cool, so yeah like nobody would really be able to know what that sounded like. That’s why I said it sounded like a tree or something,” said Justice.
Other people guessed that the sound was a fire starting, a tree falling or maybe a tree branch breaking and even just ice shattering. The sound got everyone surprised about what it was when they heard it. Justice expected the audio to sound a little different.
“Well like you know when you hear airplanes and they like break the sound barrier, you kind of assume that I guess.”
Another Londoner even compared the sound to a start of a kindling fire and another mixed sound.
“Cool sound I don’t know, I was wondering if that was from a game or something it sounds like something you’d probably mix, but I guess it’s a meteorite,” said Fateh
After the meteorite landed, its remains were sent to a lab and be tested that it indeed was a meteorite. The space rock landed in the province of Prince Edward Island in Canada.
