The Los Angeles wildfires continue to spread, with over 88 thousand Americans currently evacuated from their homes.
“Our thoughts are with the people and brave wildland fire and emergency workers who are fighting the devastating wildland fires in California,” Minister of Natural Resources for Ontario, Graydon Smith said in a Government of Canada news release. Ontario stands ready to support our neighbours to the south, and will provide aircraft, personnel and equipment needed to support California.”
Canada has taken action to help battle these wildfires, with Ontario prepared to deploy firefighters, equipment, and two waterbombers, among other personnel and equipment.
“The L.A. fires have been pretty sad to watch even from afar,” says Fanshawe Student, Lauren O’Neil. “Just seeing how many people have lost their homes. I just hope anybody that might be in the path of the continued fire is able to get out in time and, you know, everybody stays safe.”
California seems to continue to bear the brunt of the wildfires, but there are active wildfires all the way to Montana, according to Frontline Wildfire Defense.
“It’s honestly devastating to watch what’s happening right now in L.A.,” says Fanshawe student, Diana Mofatt. “I’m seeing a lot, especially on TikTok, with influencers talking about it and I just hope everyone is okay and can evacuate.”
With the fires throughout the state, Los Angeles is also seeing major power losses, specifically on the coast in and around San Francisco, according to Frontline Wildfire Defense.
