Students from grades 7 to 12 attended the Level Up career fair at the Western Fair District in London on November 12 and 13. The event introduced students to careers in skilled trades, including construction, cooking, healthcare, and more, with hands-on activities and displays.
Janet Neeb, from Ontario Skilled Trades, explained that the fair aims to get young people interested in trades and show them the many career options available. She said, “We’re here to raise awareness about the 144-plus trades in high demand across Ontario.” Around 3,500 students attended on the first day, coming from different areas like London, Oxford, and Middlesex.
Fanshawe College also joined the fair, giving students a chance to explore their trade programs. Annie Hamilton, from Fanshawe, said students loved trying out the tools and equipment. She said, “It’s a great way for them to learn about careers they hadn’t thought of before.”
With a growing need for skilled workers, the Level Up fair helped students see how these jobs can offer good careers and support their communities.
