The first-ever remembrance day was observed in 1919 and originated following the end of the First World War. Today, it is recognized around Canada and many stand for a moment of silence at 11 o’clock to honour the sacrifices made. Here are three places in London you can go to pay your respects.
Remembrance Day Parade – Cenotaph Victoria Park
The parade will form up in front of the Delta London Armouries (325 Dundas Street) at 10:15 am and will march east on Dundas Street then turn north on Waterloo
Street to Dufferin Avenue, then west to London’s Cenotaph in Victoria Park.
The ceremony will continue at London’s Cenotaph, with a moment of silence at 11. There is no cost to attend this event.
Fanshawe College Service – North Courtyard
Fanshawe College will host a Remembrance Day service between 10:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. in the North Courtyard, outside Forwell Hall, at the London Campus.
The service will be outdoors, however, if you are unable to attend there will be a live stream that can be accessed at www.fanshawetv.ca/live
There is no cost to attend this event.
Western University – McKellar Room
Western University will commemorate Remembrance Day with a service hosted by the University Students’ Council.
It will take place in the McKellar Room (2nd floor UCC) from 10:30 to 11:30 am, with a pause for a moment of silence at 11 am.
There is no cost to attend this event however donations to the local Canadian Legion’s online poppy campaign are highly appreciated.
