Evan James is a baseball player for the London Tincaps under 12 team. Recently he participated in a competition that ended up qualifying him to a free spot to the world series. Evan is the winner of the MLB pitch hit and run. He finished with the eighth highest score in all North America for his age group. His score of 1330 points got him and his family free tickets to watch the world series and James will be participating in the MLB pitch hit and run finals before the baseball game.
Evan’s dad, Norm James is an ex-baseball player and coach who used to coach some London Tincaps teams as well. “Evan and I have been playing catch, hitting baseballs in either the backyard or the local park since he was five years old,” says Norm. “He got involved in organized baseball during the covid years, so his first team experience was with his own team playing at Oakridge against themselves through the period of several months he didn’t get the chance to compete against other teams and other cities,” continued Norm.
Norm believes that what Evan is doing has a positive impact on youth sports in London. He said that Evan has become an advocate for the sport of baseball. “The amount of investment parents are putting into their kids and the programs they play within is greater than it has ever been before, so with any kind of sport or local program as time goes on it gets better. It increases in value, the players want to do more the parents want to see their kids do more, and that’s where we are today,” says Norm.
Evan will participate in the MLB pitch hit and run finals at the finals of the world series on Oct. 26. His competition takes place before the baseball game. Evan will be representing Canada at the event, something his dad says is a big honour for the young London baseball star.
