The recent Career Fair at Western University provided students some opportunities to interact with over 120 employers from different sectors. When it is organized twice a year, students can network and look into other potential career paths and also practice speaking with employers about their skills.
This year, a few major modifications were made based on student feedback. Employers were specifically labelled to indicate whether they were hiring for internships, co-ops, or full-time positions. “Students really wanted to know in advance whether companies were hiring for internships or full-time roles, so we added a legend to the company list this year,” said one of the organizers.
The event also included wider pathways and highlighted employers with inclusive hiring practices.
Employers appreciated the chance to connect with students. A representative from Media Brands said, “We love being here. We come to this career fair every single year. The fair today has been amazing – we’ve had great traction at our booth, met a lot of great people, and many signed up for our info sessions.”
Another employer stressed the importance of preparation. “The more you prepare ahead of time, research the companies, and ask great questions, the better your first impression with recruiters. You’ll be surprised at all the great employers that are here,” they said.
The organizer added, “I want students to feel confident about the options available to them. Tons of companies are eager to meet students, learn about them, and invite them into their organizations because students have a lot to offer in terms of energy, knowledge, and ideas.”
The next Career Fair is set for February 11th and 12th, 2025.
