The City of London hosted its annual Newcomer Day on Saturday October 5. It aims to connect people with services. This was the first time the event was held at the South London Community Centre.
“The event was a great success this year. We were joined by 50 exhibitors from different sectors, and we had an employment exhibition as well. The feedback we received from attendees was really good,” said Farah Ayoub, Immigration Senior Coordinator and member of the Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression Division. “People found the event to be really warm, especially this year because it’s happening at the South London Community Centre.”
“We’re very happy to know that around 1,200 people attended, which is definitely an increased number from last year and every year,” she added.
According to Ayoub, the event was enjoyable for families as it featured not only exhibitors but also entertainment and performances.
“There was a photo booth, so it was truly a day for all Londoners and for the whole family. There was a room where we gathered all the service providers, another one for employers, and the third one was for the kids’ activities,” Ayoub concluded.
