White Oaks Mall is hosting the London and Area Works Job Fair this Tuesday, September 24 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. It runs twice a year, once in April and once in September.
Industries such as health, manufacturing, tech, professional services among others will be present. “This is an event we call general-purpose job fair. We have a diverse range of companies including local employment resources that are attending,” says Christine Wilton, Workforce Development Director of London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC).
People can register on the London Economic Development Corporation website or attend the event to determine which organization to approach first.
“The button is right there on our web header; people can access the registration for the job fair. It may be good to do that because they get follow up information. If you haven’t registered, come see us at the info booth, you are going to get a list, a map of all of the companies that are there, and also what positions they’re hiring,” Christine Wilton adds.
“As a student graduating in December, I’m hoping the fair will give me insights into the current job market. Since I’m also searching for a co-op, I think it will be helpful to connect with job seekers and learn about the opportunities available. I believe attending will be really helpful, and I would love to go,” says Sneha Sunil, a Fanshawe Technical System Analysis student.
According to the Development Director, it’s important to have a career pitch ready and be well-prepared. “Bring copies of your resume; some companies will ask for it, while others may direct you to apply online. Don’t despair if they do, as it gives you a chance to tailor your resume specifically to the position you’re applying for. Prepare a 30-second introduction that highlights your skills and goals, and make sure you’re dressed for the job you want, as employers notice that.”
“I think this event is a great opportunity for students and newcomers to share their experiences, make new connections, and network. I hope this job fair will be the starting point for some of us who are looking for a great career in Canada,” says Nicolas Gomez, a Fanshawe Public Relations student.
