The $311,000 dollars that London Police spent at Homecoming at Western this past fall was one of the issues addressed at a public meeting hosted by the London Police Services board on Thursday.
Deputy Chief Paul Bastien explained how the police department plans to cut this expense saying that the London Police service will continue to work with its partners to reduce expenses.
This includes the City of London, Western University, and other police forces that travel to London to provide support at the event.
“We do engage regularly with the city and the university, we also have a core unit that is deployed if needed”. Says Bastien.
London Police collaborated with Hamilton Police, Windsor Police and York Regional Police during fall 2023’s Homecoming.
Western university is expected to continue to contribute to the city who then will provide funding to the police to have presence at the event.
“We do have commitment from Western” Bastien added. “Western has contributed to the city $100,000 Dollars, 75,000 (Dollars) of which was then directed back to London Police department in 2023”.
This comes as the department has come under scrutiny several times already this past year for expenses.
