London drivers are in for a surprise as a new roundabout has finally opened at the intersection of Colonel Talbot and Southdale. This marks the city’s fourth roundabout, joining other notable ones at Sunningdale and Hyde Park, as well as Wonderland Road and Sunningdale Road.
With few roundabouts located on busy intersections in the city, drivers find themselves at a disadvantage, lacking knowledge on how to properly navigate them. Zafir Ahmed, a supervisor from Fanshawe Driving School, has observed a lack of understanding among some London drivers.
“People in London, I don’t think they use the ground the proper way; I think people are impatient and they don’t have sufficient space or gap before they move in, so I noticed people sometimes force themselves into the roundabout,” said Zafir.
As part of the curriculum for drivers, the ministry has implemented teaching new drivers how to use roundabouts properly.
“It’s part of our curriculum required by the ministry to cover it, but the thing is in London, we don’t have so many. Even though we teach it, drivers don’t have the experience to apply and to practice it. Now, people may move slower and use it the proper way,” said Zafir.
