An 18-year-old London man is facing multiple charges after police responded to a string of robberies in the city’s east end.
Around 4:30 am Saturday morning, London police received a call for a man with a knife at a business in the area of Dundas and Highbury. Then around 70 minutes later, police received yet another call for a man carrying a knife, and demanding money at a business near Dundas and Clarke Road. At 7 am, LPS got a third call about a man with a knife, trying to cover his face with his hand, and demanding money, as well as e-cigarettes.
London Police media relations officer Matthew Dawson released a statement on the robberies saying, “At approximately 6:55 a.m., a male suspect entered a business in the area of Highbury Avenue North and Trafalgar Street. The male covered his face with his sweater and approached an employee while brandishing a knife. The suspect demanded money and e-cigarettes.”
The suspect fled on foot in all three cases before police were able to arrive on scene. Although they were able to track him down and place him under arrest. Police also say the suspect resisted arrest, and officers on scene tased the suspect while detaining him.
When detaining the suspect, police say they found a knife, as well as around $150 worth of stolen items.
As a result, police have charged a man with three counts of armed robbery, disguise with intent, and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court later today.
