Fanshawe college introduced “The Poppy Project” in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion for two years in London area schools and beyond to pay respect to the veterans about Remembrance Day.
Prof, of fashion and marketing- Fanshawe college, Wendy Sperry talks about success of the little initiative, “this year we have funding from the innovation village so that’s allowed us to higher people to help two co-op graphic design students working on all the promotional material which then we can introduce the year. We distributed poppies in Manitoba, New Brunswick along with London and so on”.
The idea was to do a little DIY and make poppy out of paper instead of plastic and involve as much students as they can
“This is the first year that we have goy significant funding last year we had number of businesses which keep continued to support us with the supplies for our kits but this year we are actually able to hire people with that funding,” Sperry added.
Meanwhile, a huge crowd gathered at the Victoria Park Cenotaph in London, Ont. Saturday morning for the city’s yearly Remembrance Day parade. This year parades took a bit different route as of ongoing construction across the town.
Parade and ceremony comprised of different military and police officers met at the Delta armories and went east on Dundas Road, north on waterloo road and west on Dufferin Road.
