With the new Beatles song “Now And Then” set to debut on Thursday, a wave of excitement and anticipation has swept over many fans. Nevertheless, some harbor mixed emotions.
When asked about the forthcoming single, Ryan Boyington, a Fanshawe student and devoted Beatles enthusiast, expressed his eagerness for the song but raised questions about whether John Lennon would have endorsed the completion and release of his demo by his former bandmates. He would go on to imply that it was a product of “capitalistic greed” and contended that Lennon’s original intention never included it becoming a Beatles song.
This situation isn’t without precedent, however, as “Free As A Bird” and “Real Love,” both originating from Lennon demos, underwent finishing touches by Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr during the same initial sessions as “Now And Then.” They were subsequently released in 1995 and 1996, respectively.
“Now And Then” is slated for release on Thursday, November 2, and is being promoted as ‘the last Beatles Song.’
