London Health Sciences Center (LHSC) has come up with advanced imaging technology and obstetrical patient care by introducing new imaging machines. These imaging tools are capable of producing 3D and 4D images with advanced AI tools which can provide more accurate images of the fetus inside the womb. This is a great innovation in the medical field as doctors will be able to diagnose high-risk pregnancies at an early age.
This is a significant advanced step for women’s health care at LHSC. The acquisition of the 12 units means that LHSC has been named a maternal center of excellence.
“I think 3d and 4d are used primarily around which gives really detailed assessment of fetus and can detect abnormalities as compared to 2D ultrasound. I think even more exciting for this innovation is we are able to provide early anatomy assessment to all of our patients at a very early stage. we can see most of the anatomy at an early stage.”-says Dr, Rob Gratton, Divisional Lead of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and CO-lead of obstetrical Ultrasound at LHSC.
This technology will help to analyze the risks at an early age in high-risk pregnancies providing reassurance to the pregnant person.
LHSC and GE Healthcare have come up with this new innovation as this is a major step forward in women’s health care.
” The new imaging technology not only provides a detailed assessment at initial stages but also, helps to establish the emotional relationship between the family as seeing small hands and feet can really help parents to get attached while taking care of the necessary precautions,” says Dr. Narinder Paul, city-wide Chair/Chief Department of Medical Imaging.
This step will not only help people residing in London, Ontario but also, patients who may need assessments from around Ontario. This technology is an Asset for Canadians.
